Rev. Ronald V. Myers, Sr., M.D.

(Phoenix, AZ & Salt Lake City, UT) - Legislation has been introduced in Arizona and Utah for Juneteenth to be officially recognized as a state holiday or special day of observance.

Arizona State Representative Reginald Bolding, Jr. introduced HB 2226 and Utah State
Representative Sandra Hollins will sponsor similar legislation in her state.

"In 2016, we hope to end up with 45 states that have passed legislation to recognized the significance of Juneteenth," states Rev. Ronald V. Myers, Sr., M.D., Founder & Chairman of the National Juneteenth Holiday Campaign and the National Juneteenth Observance Foundation (NJOF). "With a current total of 43 states, this will leave just five states including Hawaii, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana and New Hampshire to pass similar legislation."

"We continue to urge President Obama to support legislation in congress to establish Juneteenth as a National Day of Observance, issue a Juneteenth Proclamation and host a Juneteenth Celebration at the White House to honor the enslaved Americans of African descent who built it ," continues Myers.
